New Varieties for the New Season

March 15, 2011

                                            Color:  Bella Anna Hydrangea

                                                         (Hydrangea arborescens ‘PIIHA-I’)

Nothing screams long lasting color like hydrangeas and this new garden star promises to deliver color from late June to frost.   All the hardiness and great characteristics of the old fashion white snowball hydrangea that has been transformed through breeding to bring an endless supply of bright magenta pink flowers clusters from late June to frost.  This compact grower is super easy to grow & performs effortlessly in your flower or patio garden bringing you tons of flowers on strong stems…perfect for cutting for fresh or dried bouquets.  Bella Anna is the newest member of the Endless Summer collection of hydrangeas introduced by Bailey Nurseries…for an endless summer of color!

Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata ‘Rehny’)

This hydrangea touts enormous cone-shape clusters on red stems that emerge creamy white in mid summer, then change to pink and finally deepen to strawberry red.   Later in summer & continuing through fall the plant has a multicolor effect as new flowers keep emerging & the older flowers blush to red.  The red coloration on each flower lasts for at least 3-4 weeks! Easy care & very hardy, this beauty is the perfect size at 6-7’ to anchor your flower garden or corner your house foundation with incredible color.   This is another bonanza of color plant introduced by Bailey Nurseries.

                                           Easy Care:  Earlybird Cardinal Daylily

                                                                                    (Hemerocallis x 'Endless Heart')

There’s not an easier flower to grow than a daylily…and this one is a gem!  Earlybird because it begins to bloom several weeks before other daylily varieties.  This new hybrid continues to rebloom multiple times through summer & fall providing 3 to 4 times the blooms of others.  You will enjoy loads of 4” watermelon red flowers with  ruffly piecrust edges and chartreuse green throat.  Plant this variety in a sunny spot and your work is done…just sit back & enjoy this flashy bird!

       Healthy Food:  Pink Lemonade Blueberry

                                   (Vaccinium ‘Pink Lemonade’)

Grow luscious bright pink berries loaded with anti-oxidants!  Enjoy great blueberry flavor to create healthy, fun & novel snacks and desserts.  This new variety has fabulous berry color & flavor to attract all gourmet cooks.

But the pure beauty of the plant will earn the respect of all gardeners…the pinkish spring bloom, the lemony yellow berries maturing to mottled pink and finally ripening to bright pink in summer, and the orange-red fall foliage.
